INTRODUCTION:

The seventh in the series Naji's Bush Scenery, GrayWoods is located in eastern Alaska, just near the border with the Yukon Territory of Canada. It features a lovely lake that is larger than in my previous releases.

This bush scenery is dedicated to Gerrish Gray, hence the name GrayWoods. He is the designer who made for us those wonderful trees which I use a lot in my packages. Enjoy..

OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE SERIES RELEASED AS OF DATE:

1.Wilderness Cabin.....in the Brooks Range, north Alaska
2.Mid Mountain.....in the Brooks Range, north Alaska
3.Shadow Lake.....in the Brooks Range, north Alaska
4.RockDeep...off the Inside Passage, southeast Alaska
5.Sultanah....off the Inside Passage, southeast Alaska
6.TaRania....in eastern Alaska, near the Yukon Territory

INSTALLATION:

1.Download GrayWood.zip

2.Unzip all files to a temporary directory

3.You will end up with a directory called GrayWoods. It contains three subdirectories:

a)Miscellaneous subdirectory
b)FS2000 subdirectory
c)GrayWoods subdirectory

4.In FS2000 subdir, you will find Scenery subdir that contains only one file TREES_0.BGL. Please copy that into your main program FS2000\Scenery. If you used the default location upon installion of the sim, this will be:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\Scenery.

If you used any other location, like me, I have it on D:\FS2000, then this file should go in

D:\FS2000\Scenery.

You will need this file to see the lovely trees in the bush scenery.

5.In the FS2000 subdir, there is also a Texture subdir containing texture files that are required for drawing the trees. These are bitmaps and should be copied into your main FS2000 installation location under Texture dir:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\Texture

Or in case of another location

D:\FS2000\Texture

If you have previously installed my other sceneries, or have installed sceneries by other designers who used these trees, when you copy the TREES_0.BGL and the trees bitmaps as above, you might be asked whether you wish to overwrite files. Just answer yes, as these are the same files.

6.The scenery addon dir is GrayWoods. It can be placed where you normally place all scenery addons. I use a dir called D:\FSScenery, which is outside the main FS2000 dir. The scenery addon contains two subdir Scenery and Texture.

7.Start FS2000. Under 'World', choose 'Scenery Library', then 'Add Area'. Under 'Look in', browse to the location of 'GrayWoods', choose 'Scenery'. So if you have placed your addon in D:\FSScenery, under 'Directory' you should read the following: D:\FSScenery\GrayWoods\Scenery. Give it a Scenery Area Title GrayWoods, make sure you choose the option 'Use this scenery directly', then OK. The title of the scenery will appear on top of the Scenery Library list. Click OK to go back to FS2000.

8.Better that you restart FS2000.

9.You can go to the GrayWoods scenery by two methods. A) Under 'World', choose 'Go to Airport', then choose 'Scenery from FS95 or before'. GrayWoods should be listed first on the list, with options for airstrip start or lake start. B) Use 'Search Places', Global Region: North America, Country: United States, State: Alaska, City: Naji's Bush Scenery. Under 'Search Results', you will find GrayWoods.

NOTES:

a) I have tested the scenery with both the default FS2000 terrain, and with Eddie Denney's free-download Mesh for Alaska. It works fine with both. The scenery is optimized for use with Eddie's mesh and Lennart's mountain textures.

b) These are some recommendations for getting better framerates and less stuttering in FS2000. They apply not only for my sceneries, but for FS2000 in general. Try the following display options:

-Resolution 1024 x 768 x 16
-Terrain Mesh Complexity 20-30
-Terrain Texture Detail Distance 20
-Max Unlimited Visibility 60, and under Weather menu, use visibility 5-20 miles
-Aircraft Shadows OFF
-Ground Scenery Shadows OFF
-Scenery Complexity can vary between NORMAL and VERY DENSE. VERY DENSE is recommended, otherwise DENSE is still quite attractive for better frames.
-If you must, you could also use Texture Quality on 2 if the setting of 3 is causing stuttering in this mountainous area.

WORDS OF THANKS:

Lot of good and talented people have made it possible for me to produce such a scenery. These people have made available design utilities free of cost.
I wish to thank the following designers:

-Pascal Meziat, Tom Hiscox, Brian McWilliams for their fantastic software Airport V2.60

-Manfred Moldenhauer for his Scasm v2.46

-Gerrish Gray for his Trees macros and textures. Thank you Gerrish, because it is really the quality and realistic look of your trees that pulled me into scenery design.

-Doc George for his high-quality macros of cabin structures

-Ken Nelson for his planeport macro

-Martin Wright for his macro that helped me generate the lake.

-Jim Jackson of Northern Exposure for his macros of docks, crates, tents, campfire.

-Peter Leadbeater for his windsock macro

To finish off, I wish to offer special thanks to the following:

-Steve Bear Cartwright, of SurClaro.com, for introducing me to Bush Flying with his article on:
http://www.SurClaro.com/pages/0301/bush_flying/bush_flying.htm

-Ken Nelson (WeBads) for lighting the way and giving the push in the right direction. THANKS, Ken

-Don Moser for all his support.

As can be seen, this is really a team work. If I forgot to mention anyone, please accept my apologies. Even if not mentioned in here, I had surely appreciated their work, be it a macro, texture or else, while I did the scenery.

Finally, I thank you for your interest in this scenery. I hope you will enjoy flying it as much as I did making it. For any feedback, you can contact me at najich@yahoo.com
